Textiles

Two things decide the cost of a textile shipment: the cargo is bulky but light, and the origin rules are strict. For preferential origin in textiles most agreements require a double transformation — importing fabric and only cutting and sewing it usually does not confer origin. Edora Global Trade offers full loads, groupage and garment-on-hanger solutions for textiles and apparel.

Volume, not weight

Textiles are almost always volumetric cargo: the trailer or container fills before the weight limit is reached. That means the way to reduce cost is not negotiating tonnage but stowage and packing.

Method When Note
Cartons on pallets Standard apparel, bulk shipments Most common; the stow plan is a direct cost
Garment on hanger Goods going straight to store without pressing Higher volume cost, saves handling labour
Bales / fabric rolls Greige and woven fabric Weight becomes the constraint
Groupage Small collections, samples, season top-ups Consolidation adds days

Origin: the costliest error in textiles

Textiles are among the sectors where origin rules are applied most strictly. Under most preferential agreements, cutting and sewing imported fabric does not confer origin on its own; weaving and making-up together may be required. The rule varies by product group and by agreement.

The consequence: if the origin calculation is not run at order stage, the buyer pays the full tariff and the difference usually exceeds the margin won on price. Note that an A.TR movement certificate is not proof of origin — confusing the two is the most common problem in this sector.

Season and timing

In textiles the cost of being late exceeds the freight difference: goods that miss the season are sold at a discount. We therefore frame the choice between road and sea around delivery-date risk as well as cost. Road for season openers, sea for repeat orders is usually the right combination.

What we offer

Frequently asked questions

How many cartons fit in a truck?

It depends on the product and carton size; because textiles are volumetric, the vehicle usually fills before reaching the weight limit. With carton dimensions and a stow plan we can give a precise capacity.

Do you offer garment on hanger?

Yes. It saves pressing and preparation labour but costs more on volume. We calculate both options and present the comparison.

Can I use A.TR to claim a preferential rate?

No. A.TR shows free circulation, not origin. A preferential rate requires the origin rules to be met and a proof of origin such as EUR.1 to be issued.

Can labelling be done before delivery?

Yes, in the warehouse or under bond. Printing the destination market’s label before shipment is markedly cheaper than doing it after import.

Which mode suits seasonal shipments?

Road for season openers and tight dates, sea for repeat orders and larger volumes. We make the call against delivery-date risk, not cost alone.

What do you need for a quotation?

Number and size of cartons, gross weight, product group, pickup and delivery points, the Incoterms rule and the required arrival date. If a preferential regime is intended, also the origin of the fabric.

Let us run the origin calculation before the order. In textiles a lost preference wipes out every freight saving in a single line.
