    Overview

On the Turkey–Mexico lane, transit time is rarely the bottleneck; importer registration, NOM labels and the HS code are.

Freight from Turkey to Mexico moves by ocean (FCL/LCL) and air cargo. Containers leave Mersin, Ambarlı, Gemlik or İzmir (Aliağa), transship at a hub and arrive at the Gulf ports of Veracruz and Altamira or the Pacific ports of Manzanillo and Lázaro Cárdenas, typically within 4–7 weeks port to port. Mexican clearance requires a licensed agente aduanal (customs broker), and the importer must hold an RFC tax ID and be listed in the Padrón de Importadores. There is no Turkey–Mexico free trade agreement, and since January 2026 Mexico has raised duties on many tariff lines from non-FTA origins.

How does freight from Turkey to Mexico work?

Most commercial cargo travels in containers. Central Mexico (Mexico City, Puebla, Querétaro) and the industrial north-east around Monterrey are usually served through Veracruz or Altamira, while Guadalajara and the west are reached via Manzanillo. For cargo coming out of the Mediterranean, the Gulf ports generally offer the shorter routing. Inland legs run by truck or rail. Smaller loads can go as LCL; our FCL vs LCL guide explains when each makes sense.

Some shippers land cargo at a US Gulf port such as Houston and cross into Mexico by road. That can suit consignees in northern Mexico, but in-bond movements and two customs regimes must be planned together; see our United States page for the US leg. Urgent goods fly from Istanbul Airport (IST).

How long does shipping from Turkey to Mexico take?

The ranges below are typical and depend on the transshipment hub (Mediterranean or Caribbean), carrier and port congestion.

    Mode Typical transit Best for
Ocean FCL – Gulf (Veracruz/Altamira) Typically 25–40 days port to port Central and north-east Mexico, regular volumes
Ocean FCL – Pacific (Manzanillo/Lázaro Cárdenas) Typically 35–55 days, routing-dependent Guadalajara and western Mexico
Ocean LCL Typically 35–55 days incl. consolidation Small volumes, flexible deadlines
Air cargo Typically 3–6 days airport to airport Samples, spare parts, urgent orders

Random customs inspection (the “red light”) and labelling checks can add days at destination. For air timelines and paperwork, see our air freight from Turkey guide.

    Which documents are required?

    • Commercial invoice – precise descriptions, unit prices and quantities; a Spanish description or translation may be requested
    • Packing list – package count, weights and dimensions
    • Bill of lading or air waybill – see our bill of lading explainer
    • Certificate of origin – for some goods, such as textiles or footwear, proof of origin may be required
    • NOM compliance – Spanish-language labelling and product-specific technical standards for consumer goods
    • ISPM 15 marked wood packaging – mandatory for pallets and crates

The import declaration (pedimento) is filed by the Mexican agente aduanal, so invoice and packing list data must match exactly.

    Customs duties and taxes

With no FTA in place, Turkish-origin goods pay Mexico’s general import duty (IGI). From 1 January 2026, Mexico significantly increased duties on a wide range of products from countries without a trade agreement, including many textile, apparel, steel and auto-part lines. Always check the current rate for your HS code before quoting a buyer. On top of duty, IVA (VAT, generally 16%) and the customs processing fee (DTA) apply, and some goods may face excise tax or anti-dumping measures.

In sensitive sectors such as textiles, footwear and steel, the importer may also need a sectoral padrón registration. Without it, cargo is held at customs.

    Which mode makes sense when?

FCL is the most efficient option for steady volumes. LCL suits a few pallets, and air cargo covers samples and urgent parts. DDP to Mexico is harder than in many markets because a foreign seller cannot easily act as importer of record; it is usually structured through a local importer or importer-of-record service. Our Incoterms 2020 guide helps set responsibilities correctly.

    What we do

    • Sea freight: we plan FCL and LCL shipments from Turkish ports to Veracruz, Altamira and Manzanillo.
    • Air freight: we arrange urgent cargo from Istanbul to Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey.
    • Customs clearance: we prepare Turkish export declarations, origin documents and invoice checks aligned with the pedimento.
    • Foreign trade consultancy: we build a pre-shipment checklist covering tariff changes, NOM and sectoral registrations.
    • DDP import solutions: where door delivery is needed, we coordinate with partners and the agente aduanal at destination.

    Frequently asked questions

How long does sea freight from Turkey to Mexico take?

Typically 25–40 days to the Gulf ports and 35–55 days to the Pacific ports, depending on carrier and transshipment hub.

Is a customs broker mandatory in Mexico?

Yes. Commercial imports are declared through a licensed agente aduanal, who files the pedimento.

What registrations does the Mexican buyer need?

An RFC tax ID and listing in the Padrón de Importadores; some sectors also require a sectoral registration.

Does Turkey have a free trade agreement with Mexico?

No. Goods pay general duty rates, and many of those rates were increased from 2026.

Do labels need to be in Spanish?

For consumer goods, NOM rules generally require Spanish labelling. Confirm the exact rules for your product category in advance.

Can I sell DDP to Mexico?

It is possible, but because a foreign seller cannot easily be the importer, it is usually set up through a local importer.
