    Overview

A truck to Tajikistan succeeds or stalls on the paperwork of the three or four countries it crosses.

Freight from Turkey to Tajikistan moves almost entirely by road and through transit countries: trucks reach Turkmenistan via Georgia, Azerbaijan and the Caspian ferry or via Iran, cross Uzbekistan and usually enter Tajikistan from the Uzbek side. Loads typically run under a TIR carnet, and door-to-door transit is usually in the range of 14–22 days. Air freight into Dushanbe is the fastest option for urgent cargo. On this lane, success depends on preparing every transit country’s paperwork in advance.

How does freight from Turkey to Tajikistan work?

Even the shortest overland link from Turkey to Tajikistan crosses at least two or three countries. A common corridor leaves Turkey at Sarp, crosses Georgia and Azerbaijan, takes the ferry from Alat (Baku) to Turkmenbashi, crosses Turkmenistan, enters Uzbekistan at Farap and reaches Dushanbe via the Sariosiyo – Tursunzoda crossing. A second option exits at Gürbulak and transits Iran and Turkmenistan. Cargo for Khujand and northern Tajikistan can also go via the Aktau ferry and Kazakhstan to Tashkent, then through Oybek – Fotehobod. See our Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan pages for the intermediate legs.

The Kyrgyzstan–Tajikistan border reopened in 2025 after a long closure and a new border treaty; we check before each shipment whether that link is practical for commercial trucks. On all of these routes, a solid transit freight plan matters as much as the cargo itself.

How long does shipping to Tajikistan take?

Transit depends on the ferry schedule, the number of transit countries and, above all, congestion at the Uzbek–Tajik crossings. The ranges are for planning.

    Mode Typical transit Best for
Road via Caspian ferry, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan Typically 14–22 days Full and part loads to Dushanbe and the south
Road via Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan Typically 12–20 days Goods suitable for Iranian transit
Road via Aktau, Kazakhstan, Tashkent Typically 14–22 days Deliveries to Khujand and the north
Air freight to Dushanbe (DYU) Typically 2–6 days Spare parts, samples, urgent light cargo

    Which documents are required?

One consistent document set has to satisfy both the destination and every transit country:

    • Commercial invoice and packing list with identical descriptions, weights and HS codes
    • CMR consignment note and a TIR carnet covering every country on the route
    • Certificate of origin
    • A certificate of conformity where Tajik rules require one for the product; veterinary or phytosanitary documents for food and agricultural goods
    • ADR documents and any extra transit permits for dangerous goods

Driver visas and permits for transit countries, especially Turkmenistan, are planned separately and confirmed before every loading because the rules can change.

    Customs duties and taxes

Tajikistan is not an EAEU member and applies its own tariff; there is no free trade agreement with Turkey that removes duty. Expect import duty, VAT and, for some products, excise. Tax rates have been revised in recent years, so we recommend the buyer’s broker confirms the position by HS code rather than relying on a general figure. In transit countries, goods moving under TIR normally pay no duties. Our Incoterms 2020 guide helps decide who pays what.

    Which mode makes sense when?

For Dushanbe, Bokhtar and Kulob, the Turkmenistan–Uzbekistan corridor usually gives the shortest final leg, while Khujand and Istaravshan are often better served via Tashkent. When Caspian ferry queues grow, the Iran route can save days. Air freight suits parts that must arrive within days, and heavy equipment for energy and infrastructure projects needs a dedicated route survey.

    What we do

    • International road freight: we pick the transit corridor that suits the delivery city and organise FTL and LTL loads.
    • Transit freight: we set up TIR and transit documents for Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
    • Customs clearance: we prepare the export declaration and origin documents.
    • Air freight: we plan urgent shipments from Istanbul to Dushanbe and Khujand.
    • Project cargo: we survey routes for heavy and out-of-gauge equipment and coordinate with partners at destination.

    Frequently asked questions

How many days does a truck take from Turkey to Tajikistan?

Typically 14–22 days depending on the route and border waits. The number of transit countries and queues at Uzbek–Tajik crossings matter most.

Is there a direct route to Tajikistan?

No. Road shipments always cross at least two transit countries, most often entering via Uzbekistan.

Can a TIR carnet be used?

Yes. Tajikistan and the transit countries on the route are TIR parties, and the carnet is prepared to cover every crossing.

    Is Tajikistan in the EAEU?

No. It applies its own tariff; EAEU rules only become relevant when transiting Kazakhstan or Kyrgyzstan.

    Which airports handle air cargo?

Dushanbe (DYU) is the main gateway, and Khujand (LBD) serves the north.

How is the freight rate set?

It depends on route, cargo type, weight, volume and seasonal capacity. Send your details for a current quote.
